Dover, NH
Model Home: Custom Payette

We visited Boise, Idaho and saw the very first Lodge Log home that was built there over a quarter of a century ago. The home was called the “Alpine” and Bill White, Lodge Log’s General Manager, designed it. The design was very appealing with its steep roofline and wrap around deck. But it was the condition of the round, smooth logs which had retained their natural enduring beauty with no sign of wear that really made an impression on us. We chose the original Alpine (which is the basis for today’s Payette) and made a few minor changes.

Our fate was sealed upon our return from Idaho when we found a piece of land on the broad Cocheco River in Dover, NH. We didn’t hesitate when we visualized our Lodge Log home overlooking the serenity of the river. It was a decision made from the heart. Construction began in the late fall of 2002 and our partially built Lodge Log home was stalwart against one of the snowiest, coldest winters ever. Come spring with new metal roof installed, we finally had the home weather tight. In August, 2003 our labors were rewarded when we moved in, although not fully finished, but happy to be here.  As you can see from these photos, the animals have kept a close eye on the construction.  Setting the rafters and ridge beam takes a crane and some muscle, but the finished product is well worth it.  With radiant heat, the logs warm up and maintain the heat at living level for sheer comfort.

The finishing work was completed over the winter and cold as it was, we were snug and warm as can be. We were home at last in our cozy Lodge Log Home. The deck surface is a new style Trex which we like for zero maintenance. Decks normally require sealing and staining, not Trex. You install it and enjoy it.  A 6" log garage is in the process of being built.  Using the same bolt through building system, this log garage will be sturdy and warm.  We used radiant heat in the floor there too so that the ice and snow will melt and the cars will be warm in the winter.  Lucky cars!. You are welcome to come over and experience the ambiance and peace of our home.
